Han, Jaemin Ph.D., Purdue University, December 2013. Multi-session Network Coding Characterization using New Linear Coding Frameworks. Major Professor: ChihChun Wang Professor. Recently, Network Coding (NC) has emerged as a promising technique in modern communication networks and has shown extensive potentials in practical implementations and theoretical developments. Nevertheless, the NC problem itself remains largely open especially where the multiple flows (session) exist. Unlike single-session where all the receivers want the same information, they demand different information in multi-session and thus its NC strategy should be carefully designed to avoid interferences or sub-optimality. However, characterizing an optimal strategy has known to be of prohibitive complexity even we restrict to the linear network coding (LNC) problem. This thesis provides a fundamental approach to overcome this multi-session complexity. We considers the Directed Acyclic Wireline Networks, where people recently applied the results of wireless interference channels. Motivated by the graph-theoretic characterizations of classic linear NC results, we first propose a new Precoding-based Framework and its fundamental properties that bridge between the point-to-point network channel and the underlying graph structures. Such relationships turn out to be critical when characterizing graph-theoretically the feasibility of precoding-based solutions. One example of the applications of our results is to answer the conjectures of the 3-unicast interference alignment technique and the corresponding graph-theoretic characterization conditions. For the future work, we plan to consider the LNC characterization problem on the Wireless Packet Erasure Channel (PEC). Unlike Wireline Networks, the linear NC

Random Linear Intersession Network Coding With Selective Canceling

The network coding capacity of a single multicast traffic is characterized by the min-cut/max-flow (mcMF) theorem, which can be achieved by random linear network coding (RLNC). Nonetheless, the graph-theoretic characterization for multiple unicast/multicast traffic remains an open problem. This paper proposes and studies a new class of intersession-network-coding schemes: RLNC with selective ca...

An Enforceable Incentive Scheme in Wireless Multi-path Inter-session Network Coding Game

There are some selfish nodes in wireless mesh networks multi-path inter-session network coding; and all selfish nodes maximize their earnings through the game. In this paper, a stimulus scheme is proposed which is suit for selfish nodes game in a multi-path inter-session network coding game. In the multi-path transmission, we use the watch dog checks the existence of selfish nodes. After selfis...

ظرفیت شبکه های حذفی تحت کدینگ فضایی شبکه

We study the capacity of point-to-point erasure networks under a restricted form of network coding to which we refer as spatial network coding. In this form of coding, the nodes can not perform coding on successive packets which are received from one incoming link. The coding at a node is restricted to the packets received at the same time slot from different incoming links...

Classifying Networks for Network Coding

Network coding is a relatively recent development in the realm of maximizing information transfer in communications and computer networks. Traditional networks operate by simply storing and forwarding data along. Network coding, however, allows intermediate network nodes to combine data using arithmetic operations. In many instances, this can lead to more efficient use of network resources. Sin...
